Subaru’s Wilderness sub-brand welcomes the second member of its family after the Outback with a new version of the popular Forester.

Like its larger wagon sibling, the Forester Wilderness aims to appeal to outdoor types primarily because it features a beefed-up appearance. This comes courtesy of beefier cladding that extends higher into the front end and wheel wells, a higher ride height, and custom 17-inch black wheels mounted on all-terrain tires.

Subaru fans may notice the corners of the wrapped front bumper that are tucked in to increase clearance and the matte black hood decal, which is meant to reduce glare. Also included are roof rails with increased static load capacity and underbody skid plates.

If we see it from the front we will notice that it is an all-terrain car, with a wide hood and a black line right in the center. The car’s optics are sharp, with LED daytime running lights and powerful nighttime headlights. The grille of the car is black and comes with the manufacturer’s slogan right in the center. There are LED fog lights in the lower part of the bumper. It is completed by a honeycomb-shaped central air intake.

On the sides of the car we can see the huge wheel arches, the black alloy wheels or wheels, brake discs and calipers on all four wheels, black details on the lower part of the doors, locks of the same color as the black bodywork, mirror casings, and a roof rack for carrying light luggage.

Subaru has just presented the new Forester Wilderness, a special edition with a more radical configuration, both in appearance and technically, which makes it a more radical off-road off-road vehicle. On sale in the United States, starting in fall 2021.

Subaru’s North American division has just unveiled the second model with the special name “Wilderness.” After the Outback Wilderness, presented last spring, it is the turn of the older brother, a model that will also be sold in the United States market starting next fall.

Everything is ready for the commercial launch of the new Subaru Forester Wilderness, which we have already seen in some teasers with a wilder aesthetic and a dynamic configuration that is more committed to a true off-road vehicle than an SUV. To begin with, it is based on the “Premium” finish of the American Subaru Forester, presenting special details such as the new black plastic protections with a more three-dimensional shape that offers a more robust image.

Among other new features, it also features a slightly different grille, a crankcase protector with a satin aluminum finish, the headlights are LED and it has decorative stickers on the hood panel in matte black, with an anti-glare effect. In addition, the roof bars, as well as the inserts in the door sills, feature a yellow detail, which contrasts with the “Geyser Blue” body color.

Subaru has also implemented some measures on the roof to turn the special model into a Camper option, such as the extra 20 millimeters in the width of the roof rails, increasing the maximum load capacity. Inside, the same yellow color as the exterior has been carried over to the decorative moldings with an anodized finish, while the leather upholstery dresses the seats in black and gray. The Forester Wilderness will only be offered with a known gasoline engine, the 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder, associated with a Lineartronic CVT transmission.

A powertrain that allows it to have a towing capacity of up to 1,360 kilograms, double that of the normal model, and that is complemented by improved driving dynamics. Special to face the most difficult challenges, the suspension has new springs that increase the height of the body to the ground by 233 millimeters, the “X-MODE” driving mode has been improved for more all-terrain driving and tires have been fitted specials with the name in white.

Behind the car we have a roof antenna in the shape of a shark fin, a decorative spoiler with a third stop, LED brake lights, the manufacturer’s slogan right in the center, two exhaust outlets, among other details.

As you can glimpse inside, the Forester mimics the Outback Wilderness by offering plenty of standard equipment, including an 8-inch infotainment screen and Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite, along with water-resistant material that doesn’t. It is leather for the seats and darker. The car’s steering wheel is multifunctional and comes with different buttons to control different applications. There are gold details on the steering wheel and gear lever.

As for what will power the Wilderness model, as we learned in a recent fill-in with the EPA, it will be offered with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-four that produces an interesting 182 horsepower accompanied by a combined 239 Nm of torque. with a continuously variable transmission with a lower gear ratio and standard all-wheel drive. According to the agency, the Forester Wilderness will return 25 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined.
