Subaru WRX STI is a “C” class super sedan, the most powerful and controllable Subaru WRX model. A modernized version of the first generation of the car. The debut of the Subaru WRX STI took place at the Detroit auto show in January 2017.

In order to distinguish the WRX STI from the more “civilian” (but also very “evil”) Subaru WRX, you don’t need to be a sage. Let’s look at the most striking elements: a huge rear wing, branded 19-inch wheels (of course, aggressively black), huge brake elements that are so clearly visible through the disk, and, of course, bright red “STI” nameplates. . Inside there is little more: more nameplates, red stitching everywhere, a red-painted gear knob and… Only “mechanics”! And this feature of the configuration, in fact, is everything you need to know about the character of the most “charged”, most “evil” Subaru WRX. It’s for drive.

Subaru engineers, while upgrading the sports version, decided to “dig deeper” by comparing it with a simple WRX. Everything is inside! Of course, the WRX STI has all the driving advantages that the “junior” model has: this is the Dynamic Driving Control (VDC) system along with active traction direction, which help avoid understeer, and another, even more advanced system of electrically assisted gear ratio – 13.3:1, and suspension with factory settings for track driving (better shock absorbers and springs, more powerful anti-roll bars, wide summer tires). But there is an additional arsenal: firstly, the new active center differential is now fully electronically controlled (previously – mechanical locking and forced electrical locking), which means that the system’s reactions will become faster and smoother. Secondly, the Brembo front brakes have become six-piston (instead of four pistons before), and the diameter of the disc itself has increased.

For the WRX STI they also offer a boxer, also turbocharged, also four-cylinder power plant (as on the WRX), but with a larger volume and with a different fuel supply system: the output of the 2.5-liter engine with distributor injection is 300 hp. With. and 407 Nm of torque (that is, there were no changes during the modernization process). As already mentioned, only a six-speed manual transmission can work in tandem with it. This combination ensures that the WRX STI accelerates to the first hundred kilometers per hour in 5.2 seconds, and the model’s maximum speed is 250 km/h. The drive, like on the WRX, is only all-wheel drive.

The interior is almost completely the same as the WRX model: the new multimedia system screen has become noticeably larger compared to the previous model, and there are noticeably fewer buttons next to it: now it is a 7-inch touch screen, framed by two “knobs” and six keys. In addition, the display above the front panel has also increased, providing the driver with data on the technical condition of the car “here-and-now”: boost pressure, temperature readings, etc.

The WRX STI, in addition to being a driving car, can also be an enjoyable civilian car. A fairly rich set of equipment helps him with this. Seven airbags, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, cruise control, a multimedia system with a 7-inch screen and a rear view camera, rain and light sensors, headlights with LED optics and a light beam directed behind the steering wheel. You can also add branded Recaro sports seats, dual-zone climate control (and this option cannot be ordered for the STI), and even a glazed roof.
