Launched a little over a year ago, the Tribeca receives its first restyling. Faithful to the brand’s tradition, Subaru’s flagship maintains its all-wheel drive system and good qualities of space and comfort, improving the body design and, above all, its boxer engine, now 3.6 liters and 258 CV. It is now available in 5 and 7-seater versions starting at 45,900 euros.

Subaru faces 2010 with a major product offensive. The recently presented Justy and Impreza will be joined at the beginning of February by its important and first turbodiesel engine – a 2.0-litre, 150 HP boxer engine that will begin equipping its Legacy and Outback models – and, already in May, by the renewed 2010 Subaru Forester. However, it is not advisable to rush so much. This month it is the turn of its biggest all-road, which with only a year of commercial history is already releasing an interesting update that begins with its own name. Now it abandons the B9 surname to be called exclusively Tribeca.

The modifications also affect the bodywork. With the same platform and, therefore, with identical dimensions (4.86 m in length, 1.88 in width and 1.69 in height), the new 2010 Subaru Tribeca opts for a more square design, which features a more voluminous and robust front, new bumpers and grille, and renewed headlights. Having slightly abandoned its rounded shapes, it is true that it loses the originality with which it stood out from its rivals, in exchange for offering this time an authentic SUV aesthetic. In short, according to Subaru, more in line with what the customer demands for this type of vehicle.

Apart from image improvements, the most important novelty is undoubtedly found under the hood. Faithful to its deep-rooted tradition of six-cylinder opposed boxer architecture, the new Tribeca debuts a completely new engine development for the occasion.

The three liters of displacement of the previous generation are now surpassed by a block with larger diameter and stroke, which raises the displacement to 3.6 liters. Its power is now 258 HP, fifteen more than before, and, what is more important, with a considerable increase in maximum torque that rises from 30.3 mkg to 35.7. The figure is also obtained at 4,000 rpm, a lower speed. It has active control and valve lift.
